Bloomberg: Cover-up in cop’s DWI case is ‘reprehensible’

Mayor Bloomberg today blasted the cops who pulled over an allegedly drunk cop and plied him with gum and water to help mask the booze on his breath, saying the cover-up was “reprehensible.”

The development, which is being probed by the NYPD, comes as the blood-alcohol test administered to the cop, Andrew Kelly, of Brooklyn’s 63rd Precinct, came up all zeroes — which could potentially cripple the case in the killing of Vionique Valnord in Flatlands this weekend.

“I just wanted to address a terrible tragedy that is being actively investigated by the NYPD. Yesterday, I talked to the Reverend Varius Valnord, the father of Vionique, who was hit and killed by a car Sunday morning,” said Bloomberg.

“It’s a tragedy that deserves the closest of scrutiny, and if true the allegations of a DWI hit and a cover-up are reprehensible.”

Bloomberg said “the investigation will tell us what actually took place.”

“Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has said our police officers are held to higher standards than anybody else, and the public can be assured that we will get to the bottom of this,” he said.
