NJ man attacks McDonald’s worker to get Filet-O-Fish sandwich

Gimme me that fish … now!

Cops said an irate man crawled out of his car and into the drive-thru window of a McDonald’s in New Jersey just to get his hands on a Filet-O-Fish sandwich.

“His Filet-O-Fish was taking too long at 4:30 in the morning,” South Brunswick Police Detective Sergeant James Ryan told NBCNewYork.com.

Ryan said the customer yelled at the employee and pushed him up against the counter, before attacking him.

“After he slaps him, he takes his food,” Ryan said.

Ryan said the customer then threatened the worker by telling him: “I’ll be waiting for you when you get off work.”

The police report said the suspect — who has not been identified by police — “walked out of the store with his fish filet sandwich,” went to his car, parked in the drive thru lane, and left.

Ironically, the Filet-O-Fish has been the theme of a popular McDonald’s TV commercial running over the past six weeks where a plastic fish mounted on a wall sings, “Gimme that Filet-O-Fish, give me that fish,” while a man takes bites out of the sandwich.

Last year, the ad — and its infectious song — spawned a series of fake homemade versions of the ad posted online. Google has said searches for “McDonald’s fish” were up 100 percent in April 2009 and that the ad has been viewed on YouTube over a million times.

The Filet-O-Fish is a fried fish patty topped with cheese and tartar sauce on a hamburger bun.

Cops, meanwhile, describe the attacker as an African-American man in his 20s, about 5-foot-7, with dreadlocks.

He was wearing jeans, a black sweatshirt and a baseball cap at the time of the attack.
