WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A judge has ruled that the single courtroom in a small New York town can’t handle the drugged-driving trial of Kerry Kennedy.
The district’s administrative judge said Wednesday that the case must be moved to the Westchester County courthouse in White Plains.
He agrees with Kennedy’s lawyers that there are obstacles to holding a high-profile trial in the town courtroom in Armonk. He says it has no jury box, no tables for the lawyers and not enough seats or bathrooms.
Defense attorney Gerald Lefcourt praised the decision. The district attorney’s office took no position.
After an accident last year, tests found a small amount of a sleeping drug in Kennedy’s blood. She says she accidentally took a sleeping pill.
Kennedy is Sen. Robert Kennedy’s daughter and President John Kennedy’s niece.
