Poison frontman Bret Michaels prepares for heart surgery: report

Rocker and reality TV star Bret Michaels will undergo heart surgery in Arizona on January 24 to repair a hole in his heart, his rep told Hollywood Life blog Monday.

With the procedure at the Barrow Neurological Institute just three weeks away, the rock star still found the strength to perform at a New Year’s Eve concert in Orlando.

2010 was a challenging year medically for Michaels, who has Type 1 diabetes. The 47-year-old had an appendectomy followed by a brain hemorrhage in April and suffered a minor stroke in May.

Despite his health problems, the singer won “Celebrity Apprentice 3,” released a new album in July, co-hosted the Miss Universe 2010 pageant in August and starred in a VH1 reality show “Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It.”

On his TV show’s finale episode, aired December 20, Michaels proposed to his girlfriend of 16 years and mother of his two daughters, Kristi Gibson, 39.
