Chile’s president to be given beer by UK PM Cameron

British Prime Minister David Cameron will Monday present the President of Chile with 33 cans of British beer to mark the rescue last week of the miners.

Sebastian Pinera was due to receive the as-yet unspecified brand after a lunch meeting with key lawmakers.

Cameron will also present Pinera with a copy of “Robinson Crusoe.” In return he will be given a rock from the mine where the 33 miners were trapped for 69 days until they were saved last Wednesday.

Speaking Sunday ahead of his meeting with Cameron, he told Sky News, “England is a key ally in Europe and I hope we will be able to strengthen our ties. With David Cameron … we share the same values, the same views and, therefore, we are looking forward to that meeting.”

The Harvard-educated billionaire previously said that through the miners’ rescue Chile had shown the world the meaning of “commitment, courage, faith, hope and unity.”

Pinera, 60, will also visit Buckingham Palace, where he is to have an audience with the Queen before traveling to France and Germany.
