Alderson, Mets to meet again about GM job

Sandy Alderson could be a step closer to becoming the next Mets general manager after he meets again with team COO Jeff Wilpon and assistant GM John Ricco today at Citi Field.

Dana Brown, a special assistant to Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos, became the sixth candidate to talk to Wilpon and Ricco and other team executives yesterday. Brown also worked with Omar Minaya in Montreal, making him an unlikely successor to the ousted general manager.

Alderson, former president of the Athletics, built the Oakland teams that reached the World Series three straight seasons from 1988-90 and won it in 1989. He also was the CEO of the Padres.

The Mets said this is not a second interview, but a continuation of his first interview, and that Alderson will not yet meet with owner Fred Wilpon or team president Saul Katz. The second round of interviews is expected to be scheduled for next week with selected candidates.
