Gov boost for Weprin

Cuomo to the rescue!

Popular Gov. Cuomo said he’s ready to appear in TV and radio ads to help put Democratic congressional candidate David Weprin over the top in the surprisingly close race to fill disgraced ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner’s House seat, The Post has learned.

Polls show GOPer Bob Turner breathing down Weprin’s neck in the Queens-Brooklyn district, where Democrats outnumber Republicans 3-1, but where President Obama’s popularity has plunged.

“The governor supports Assemblyman Weprin and will do what he can to help,” said a Cuomo official, who requested anonymity.

Turner has sought to link Weprin to Obama, with a new mailer showing the president on a golf course with the headline “Washington just doesn’t get it.”

But Cuomo — who has a 70 percent approval rating in the district — could be Weprin’s lucky charm.

“David and his team . . . appreciate Governor Cuomo’s support and expect his endorsement to play a helpful role,” said Weprin spokeswoman Elizabeth Kerr.
