PSAL boys soccer roundup: Tottenville rallies past New Dorp in overtime

Based on the preseason, which included scrimmage victories over New Jersey powers Bayonne and St. Joseph’s of Metuchen, Ron Nathanson was expecting a fast start for Tottenville. Instead, his team faced a halftime deficit and was taken to overtime by a team – New Dorp – it handled with ease last year.

“I was surprised because of how we played last week,” the school’s boys soccer coach said. “I was expecting that to come out again today.”

Carlo Coladonato made sure the debut ended in the Pirates’ favor, scoring one minute into overtime on a Chris McCormick helper. McCormick, a sophomore center back, equalized early in the second half and Dardan Nika also scored for Totenville (1-0-0), ranked fifth in the PSAL by The Post, on a Coladonato feed. Archie Grant and Ahmed Gabr found the back of the net for the Central Cougars (0-1-0).

“We started out this way last year – we went into overtime with McKee/Staten Island Tech and we ended up going undefeated,” Nathanson said. “Hopefully, it’s a good omen.”
