Mets’ Isringhausen has bad disk in back

Mets right-hander Jason Isringhausen has a herniated disk in his lower back, and the 39-year-old reliever will be sidelined several days.

Isringhausen said Thursday before the Mets played a doubleheader against Atlanta that the injury is causing him to feel numbness in his foot and he’ll likely get a shot to help ease the pinched nerve.

The two-time All-Star started his career with the Mets in 1995 and returned this year after missing most of 2009 and all of last season for Tommy John surgery.

He is 3-3 with a 4.05 ERA and seven saves in 53 appearances this year. He got his 300th save on Aug. 15.

Also, Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz broke his ankle Thursday in a fall outside a hotel. Spokeswoman Shannon Forde said Horwitz, with the Mets since 1980, will have surgery Monday.
