CANARSIE AIMING TO REBOUND VS. BAYSIDE

AFTER a demoralizing 21-0 loss to Sheepshead Bay last week, Canarsie head coach Mike Camardese expects a different team to show up this week. At least he hopes so.

“We didn’t play well at all,” Camardese said. “It was the worst game we’ve had since 1993, or maybe even longer.”

The third-seeded Chiefs can’t afford a similar effort tomorrow, when they host No. 14 Bayside at noon in the first round of the PSAL playoffs. Tomorrow marks the start of the CHSFL playoffs, as well. Normally, when a 3 faces a 14, it’s not much of a game. This should be different.

Bayside, after going 0-4, won three of its last four games to sneak into the playoffs. The Commodores have been competitive in every game and have a shot to end Canarsie’s playoff hopes.

“We have to stop turning the ball over and giving up big plays,” said Camardese, whose team was plagued by both problems in last week’s loss to Sheepshead.

Prediction: Canarsie 20, Bayside 12

No. 11 Port Richmond at No. 6 Curtis, tomorrow, noon: These two met a couple of weeks ago and after getting a huge early lead, Curtis nearly let Port Richmond back in the game. Prediction: Curtis 34, Port Richmond 22.

No. 8 Beach Channel vs. No. 9 Columbus, at Far Rockaway, tomorrow, 11 a.m.: Beach Channel surprised even itself by making it this far, but the undermanned Dolphins won’t be able to continue their season. Prediction: Columbus 22, Beach Channel 14.

CHSFL PLAYOFFS

No. 7 Mount St. Michael at No. 2 Iona Prep, tomorrow, 1 p.m.: Both teams are banged up and have played inconsistently. Prediction: Iona Prep 23, Mount 14.

No. 3 St. Francis Prep vs. No. 6 Msgr. Farrell, Sunday, 1 p.m.: Farrell has played well recently in trying to defend crown for the second year in a row. Prediction: Farrell 24, St. Francis Prep 20.

No. 8 Chaminade at No. 1 St. Anthony’s, tomorrow, 1 p.m.: St. Anthony’s may not play any close games this postseason. Prediction: St. Anthony’s 30, Chaminade 12.
