Cooking up some help

She’s the patron saint of the protest.

A professional rock singer on the Lower East Side has opened her bathroom and kitchen to the grungy Occupy Wall Street protesters, letting them shower up and cook fancy vegetarian meals for the hungry hordes in nearby Zuccotti Park.

Collette McLafferty, 37, who lives in a three-bedroom pad on Rivington Street, said yesterday she supports the demonstrators’ cause and just wanted to help.

“I may not be a multimillionaire, but I do have a valuable resource to offer, which is my kitchen,” said McLafferty, adding that she plans on helping out “as long as the movement stays peaceful and law- abiding.”

She approached the volunteer cooking staff at Zuccotti Park about a week ago and saw the endless flow of food donations they were receiving — so she offered up her tiny, 5-by-6-foot kitchen.

“About five days ago they got a huge donation of organic vegetables. It took four of us to carry all the boxes,” she said.

“They didn’t know where they were going to cook the food or if they’d even find a kitchen, so I stepped up and offered my kitchen.”

So far, the revelers have jumped at the opportunity three times.

“They’ve cooked meals for about 300 people,” she marveled.

Her hip flat — every wall is a different color — is equipped with a standard refrigerator, an old white stove, formica countertops, doorless cupboards painted purple, a food processor and a crockpot.

The feasts include dishes that would make a meat-loving Wall Street banker cringe, like a crockpot concoction of baked beans mixed with brown rice and peppers.

Other dishes include oven-roasted potatoes and a kale-based stir-fry.

Her two roommates said they were fine with her generosity — but also seemed a bit wary.

They said no more than three protesters were allowed in at once.

The protest is “all about sharing resources and creating a world where 100 percent of people can have their needs met, and we think we should lead by example,” she explained.

So far she’s been paid in free meals.

“I was surprised by how flavorful it was. A lot of garlic, a lot of it was on par with something I’d order in a restaurant. It was delicious and healthy,” she said.

“They definitely took care of me for taking care of them.”
