AMAZIN’ ROBERTO SET TO GO

Roberto Alomar is a traveling man. It’s been a whirlwind offseason for the new Met second baseman, who joined his fifth major league team in December when Cleveland shipped him to New York in the blockbuster trade of the Hot Stove League.

Alomar has spent a fair share of the winter on the water, where he’s cruised all over the world. So far he’s seen the islands of St. Martin, St. John, St. Thomas, Curacao and Aruba.

The island of Manhattan was probably next in line, because Alomar was in town for a card show in New Jersey over the weekend.

“I’ve always love cruises. I like to enjoy myself and my vacations,” he told a group of beat writers at Shea Stadium yesterday afternoon.

Alomar, after hitting .336 with 20 homers and 100 RBIs last year, has been working hard. He flew from Puerto Rico to Arizona for two weeks of intensive workouts. And he said his father, Sandy Alomar Sr., still hits ground balls to him in the offseason.

Outfielder Kenny Lofton, whom the Mets were rumored to be interested in earlier this winter, signed a one-year contract with the White Sox yesterday.
