Luxury homebuilder Toll Brothers is beginning development of high-end college dorms, according to CEO Douglas Yearley Jr. Toll rose 2.1 percent to close at $37.06.

Trulia, the operator of a residential-property listings website, surged 4.7 percent to $24.50 on optimism that gains in home prices would help boost advertising revenue.

SEC return

Vincente Martinez, who helped start the Securities and Exchange Commission’s market intelligence office, is returning to lead the unit. Martinez will rejoin the SEC next month from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Neel Kashkari, who joined Pimco in 2009 to help oversee an expansion into equities, is leaving Bill Gross’s firm to consider running for public office. Kashkari previously was a senior adviser to former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.
