WHAT’S UP, DOCK? Bridget Conforti and Evan Adamson, both 31 and of Washington Heights, always had a soft spot for Long Island City. “It’s a place where we spent a lot of time, and the NYC skyline can’t be beat,” says Conforti, district manager for a natural beauty company. So when they had a half-hour before their wedding in June 2012, Manhattan-based photographer Michael King suggested taking them to the docks. Since Adamson’s dad is an avid fisherman, they took the bait — and “swiped the fishing pole from a local fisherman,” recalls Conforti. Though they didn’t get a bite that day, the couple knows what they’ve found: “Without a doubt, we both got a good catch,” she laughs. http://www.artlook.us

JUST LIKE SUPERMAN Ali Gribow, 27, a schoolteacher, was in for the surprise of her life when her wedding photos from October 2012 trickled in — and she found she was married to a superhero. “My first reaction when I saw the photo was pure shock,” confesses Gribow, when she learned that her husband, Matt Rulapaugh, 30, a project accountant from Scottsdale, Ariz., had hatched the plan to morph into superhero mode since they first became engaged. “I always knew about Matt’s love of all things superhero/comics, but I had no clue!” http://www.memoriesthrutime.com

PLAYING POOL Brooklyn-based photographer Roberto Falck came up with the idea of shooting Nicole D’Antuono-Hussain and her husband, Bill, submerged in their finery in the swimming pool of a friend. They took very little persuasion to agree to the shoot in 2008. “We aren’t the kind of couple that stares into each other’s eyes,” says D’Antuono-Hussain, in her mid-30s and living in Plainview, LI. It took several hours to complete the shoot and get the perfect shot. And how did the dress survive? “I hung it to dry for a couple days afterward and then had it cleaned and preserved,” says D’Antuono-Hussain. “It’s in a box. No water damage at all!” http://www.robertofalck.com

DOWN & DIRTY It wasn’t easy directing a 14-person bridal party, but Megan and Ron Redzia, both 27, were happy to do so for their wedding day last October. “We’re not stiff people, and we didn’t want traditional pictures,” says the bride, who found the carriage house at historic Oakeside Mansion in Bloomfield, NJ, the perfect spot to let loose. “Our photographer Michelle Jonne said she couldn’t ask for better props.” Redzia, who works in p.r. and lives in New Jersey with her automotive technician husband, says she didn’t even mind the bottom of her dress getting dirty: “I was very nervous about being the center of attention, but I felt instantly comfortable from the first shot.” http://www.michellejonne.com/

AHOY, MATEYS! Delaware couple Michelle and Eric Chang were determined to incorporate their dual passion for ninjas and pirates into their nuptials last October. The 30-year-olds got their wedding party to goof it up for the camera in pirate hats and masks in a series of stylized shots by Joe Flacco’s photographer, Jason Prezant. “We were already considering Jason but seeing the hilarious pictures he took of Joe Flacco clinched the deal,” says Michelle, an interior designer. “He clearly had great flair and imagination.” She asked her bridesmaids to dress up as pirates in honor of their high school mascot and, since Eric is heavily into martial arts, the guys wore ninja suits and threw ninja stars. Surprisingly, no one was injured. “It was a bit of fun, and it relaxed everyone” says Michelle, who considers the pictures their favorite keepsake from the event. “We’re still laughing about it now!” http://www.jasonprezant.com

WALL-FLOWERS Russians Maria Gurkina and Alexander Chhalyants, both 28, say their unconventional New York City wedding pictures have caused a stir among their friends in Moscow. Their favorite has them posing as if they are perched on the tusks of an elephant on a gigantic mural in DUMBO, Brooklyn. “It’s just very different,” says Gurkina, who decided to get married in NYC in September of last year after she finished her studies in Canada to become a doctor. “People are always talking about it when they see it in our apartment!” http://www.artlook.us

When Juliana Park and Ben Lee (above), both 32, thought of an engagement photo shoot in 2011, the artsy duo from LA wanted something offbeat. The couple chose a zombie ambush after a few brainstorming sessions, then enlisted the help of photographer friend Amanda Rynda and a pal to play the zombie in the hills of Valencia, Calif. “We wanted to document our love — but we also wanted to poke fun at the fact that [these types of photos] are awkward,” says Park. http://www.amandarynda.com

For their engagement shoot in 2010, ex-New Yorkers Pani Razmi, 35, and Ronnie Razmi, 42 (above), flew in LA photographer Ray Soemarsono. “We both love New York City where we fell in love,” says Pani, a financier. The couple’s favorite picture was taken in the Village. “We saw the cab, and we just went for it.” Ray Soemarsono – http://livebooks.aperturaphoto.com
