Bed cig eyed in Upper E. Side fire

An early morning two-alarm blaze in a residential high-rise on the Upper East Side slightly injured 13 people, including three firefighters yesterday.

Fire marshals are investigating the blaze, which may have been sparked by someone smoking on the 12th floor of the 40-story building at 1763 Second Ave. at 92nd Street.

A neighbor who lives on the 13th floor said a firefighter “told me . . . it was a lit cigarette that fell on a mattress on the 12th floor.”

It took 110 firefighters about two hours to put out the 3:40 a.m. fire, said an FDNY spokesman.
