The deep end

Why would anyone do this? Is fame that important? Well, yes — to the celebrities who are willing to jump off a 10-meter high dive in front of poolside audiences on “Splash,” the US version of an international hit series. Olympian Greg Louganis trains luminaries such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Louie Anderson, Nicole Eggert and others to perform synchronized stunts and to compete in regulation platform and springboard diving. Each week their dives will be critiqued by Olympic US Gold medalist David Boudia and Australian Olympic athlete and USA Dive Team director Steve Foley.

Romeo killer

The quiet town of Delmar, NY, was considered anything but dangerous, until 21-year-old Chris Porco (Matt Barr, the hottie from “Hatfields & McCoys”) was accused of brutally murdering his father Peter and disfiguring his mother Joan (Lolita Davidovich) in a savage ax attack, a claim made all the more shocking when the case’s lead detective Joe Sullivan (Eric McCormack) believed Joan had identified Chris as her attacker. Weeks after the crime, however, Joan would refute Detective Sullivan’s story, while the town of Delmar and many of Chris’ former friends would also rally to his defense, despite Sullivan’s fierce mission to prove his guilt. Prosecutors believed that beneath Chris’ blond facade was a devious and cunning sociopath who would stop at nothing to keep his lies hidden. He was convicted of second-degree murder of his father, but many in the town of Delmar firmly believe the jury wrongfully convicted an innocent young man.

Wireless ‘World’

CellPHONE pioneer Marty Cooper is the focus of the first episode of Discovery’s new series “How We Invented the World.” Standing on a New York City sidewalk, Cooper called his main competitor at AT&T and said, “I’m talking to you on a cell-phone.” The episode traces how Cooper developed his phone, with a two-way radio and a relay station on the roof of his office. And then, how the world took the idea and ran with it, adding cameras, which made certain kinds of technology redundant, which later sparked social revolutions, such as the Egyptian uprising that led to the resignation of president Hosni Mubarak.
