Marge is quite the cook.
“The Simpsons” spoofed AMC’s “Breaking Bad” in the couch gag for this Sunday’s episode, with the family’s matriarch raising money using her baking talents.
“Breaking Bad” centers around a New Mexico high school chemistry teacher named Walter White (Bryan Cranston) who cooks crystal meth after he’s diagnosed with cancer.
The Simpsons clip begins with Breaking Bad’s familiar title screen, featuring a Periodic Table and smoke plume. But instead of spelling out “Breaking Bad,” the element symbols for Thorium (Th) and Silicon (Si) appear.
The segment follows with Marge, glum and sluggish, sitting on the Simpsons’ sofa and sipping from a cup. She dons a “kiss the cook” apron. And cook she does – cracking eggs into a mixing bowl, stirring, adding water, pouring the contents into a cupcake mold, putting the batter into the oven and adding sprinkles, all set to “Crystal Blue Persuasion” by Tommy James and the Shondells.
Homer pops through the window to get a taste – wearing Walter’s “Heisenberg” disguise, a black pork pie hat and sunglasses.
Bart emerges to haul away a suitcase full of cupcakes. A church bake sale follows, with Homer watching through binoculars, studying the purchases.
Marge, an apathetic look still across her face, counts her money ($50) and adds it to the stash across the dining room table.
The shot zooms out to show actual “Breaking Bad” actors Cranston and Aaron Paul sitting on their own sofa, swigging beer while watching the cartoon family. That clip – pulled from a season five episode – originally showed the duo watching “The Three Stooges.”
Now they’re watching “The Simpsons” – and they’re a part of the show’s parody parade, too.
