A troubled 26-year-old Queens man got the gift of life on his birthday — he miraculously survived being run over by a subway train, his family and authorities said.
Alexander Flefleh fell off the F train platform at Second Avenue in the East Village yesterday at around 10 a.m., just as a train was arriving, police sources said.
Flefleh, who according to his family lives in a Manhattan homeless shelter, luckily ended up in a trough between the two rails.
The train rolled over him without hitting him, police said.
He suffered head trauma, but broke no bones below his neck, said his mom, Aphrodite Flefleh of Astoria, Queens. Flefleh was being treated last night at Bellevue Hospital.
The worried mom says her son suffers from seizures, as well as emotional and drug problems. She said tests found no alcohol in his system and that she believes he fell because of a seizure.
“Hopefully, this will be enough to put him on a different track,” she said. “I hope that he understands that he’s more valuable than he thinks he is.
“He didn’t ruin his life, which is incredible. I’m hoping if he comes to terms with it, maybe we will get lucky and it will hit him. This is a young man who needs help and needs a second chance.”
The incident delayed train service in Manhattan and Brooklyn for more than an hour.
Earlier yesterday, at 6:25 a.m., a man in his 30s was electrocuted when he jumped to the third rail on the uptown 2 and 3 express tracks in Times Square.
The third rail’s 625-volt charge killed the man instantly, authorities said.
