John Oliver’s HBO show to debut in April

John Oliver’s new HBO show now has a premiere date – April 27 – and a title.

“Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” will debut that Sunday at 11 p.m., where it will air at the end of the night’s lineup of “Game of Thrones,” “Veep” and new Mike Judge comedy “Silicon Valley.”

The topical, half-hour series will present a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events, with Oliver’s former “Daily Show” colleague Tim Carvell serving as showrunner.

Oliver made a name for himself filling in for the vacationing Jon Stewart on Comedy Central’s “Daily Show” last summer.

HBO will air 24 episodes of the series in 2014.
