Hakeem Nicks: I wouldn’t miss Cowboys game

Hakeem Nicks said there is no way he will miss the Giants’ showdown Sunday against the Cowboys, even after yet another injury concern has cropped up for the wide receiver.

“No, c’mon man, it’s Dallas, man,’’ Nicks said Thursday.

Nicks was able to return to the practice field, taking part on a limited basis. He said the reason he was not on the field on Wednesday is that he was advised by his agent to have checked out what he revealed to be a strained abdominal muscle.

“It’s been something all year really, on and off,’’ Nicks said. “I was advised by my agent to just get it checked up a little bit so that’s what we did. Make sure everything was good, got good feedback, everything was fine.’’

Nicks had never before mentioned any issue with a strained abdomen and he had never appeared on the injury report this season with that particular ailment. He was expected to practice on Wednesday, was not on the initial injury report and then listed as missing practice because of an issue with his groin. Coach Tom Coughlin, after Thursday’s practice, said the issue is “abdominal, whatever that means.’’

Nicks did not want to elaborate.

“I ain’t going to go into detail about it,’’ he said. “It’s a little strain, that’s it.

“No, I don’t think it’s going to be anything like that to bother me. I’ve been playing all season, on and off, it was never nothing serious, just a situation being the situation I’m in I just had to make sure I’m good.’’

By “the situation I’m in’’ Nicks certainly could have been referring to his contract status, as he is set to become a free agent after this season. It is unusual for a player to give the reason for missing practice as his agent advising him to get a medical issue checked out.

“Everything I do for one of my clients is in the best interest of his career at every stage of the proceedings,’’ Nicks’ agent, Peter Schaffer, told The Post.

This has been a disappointing and curious season for Nicks, who has 42 receptions for 620 yards, but is still looking for his first touchdown. He took himself off the field for a few plays during last week’s 27-13 victory over the Packers. His replacement on one play, Louis Murphy Jr., ran the wrong route on his only offensive snap to cause Eli Manning’s only interception. Nicks looked agitated and upset on the bench and teammate Brandon Jacobs admitted he gave Nicks a pep talk.

“I’m not frustrated,’’ Nicks said. “All that stuff they’re saying about me wanting to be frustrated and all that, that’s not my character, that’s not me. I’m a team player, I know my role, I play it well and that’s that. I’m always going to go out there and play hard, compete and play the game the way I’ve been playing it.

“Frustrated ain’t the case at all. Competitive is completely separate from being frustrated, in my eyes anyway. I’m competitive ‘cause that’s my nature. I’ve been like that since I was a little boy. I don’t think anybody around here wants that to change.’’
