Jones Day moves downtown

Jones Day, the international law firm based in Midtown, has signed a long-rumored lease on Saturday for 330,000 square feet to move to 4 Brookfield Place.

The 20-year lease covers the 27th through 34th floors in the 1.8 million square-foot, 34-story tower that was under lease through October to Bank of America/Merrill Lynch.

The Hudson River-front building’s alternate address is 250 Vesey Street.

Owner Brookfield Office Properties is in the midst of a complete lobby renovation as well as a $250 million retail and common area repositioning of the entire 8 mllion-square foot Brookfield Place project.

“We are glad that Jones Day recognized the new aesthetics along with the dining, shopping and transit options coming to Brookfield Place that will make it as attractive to its employees as their new offices,” said Dennis Friedrich, chief executive officer of Brookfield Office Properties.

Mitchell Steir, Matt Barlow and David Goldstein of Studley represented Jones Day while Jerry Larkin and David Cheiken negotiated for the ownership in-house.

Jones Day is currently headquartered at 222 E. 41 St., and the new Brookfield Place location has mass transit connections through the new East West Concourse to the World Trade Center PATH trains and most subway lines.
