Cops shoot man who ‘pointed gun’ at them

Cops opened fire at a Queens man who allegedly aimed a loaded gun at officers last night in the Rockaways, police said.

Henry Jones, 25, was arguing with a woman on a third floor staircase at the Beach 41st Street Houses at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, prompting a 911 report of an assault, authorities said.

The officers got to 40-20 Beach Channel Dr., and heard screaming from the stairwell where they found Jones with a 9mm highpoint handgun, they said.

Jones ran up the staircase as officers called for him to dropped the weapon — then allegedly pointed the gun at the cops, police said.

That’s when one of the cops  opened fire, hitting the man nicknamed “Bug” in the torso.

“I heard about five shots. You could see the blood in the elevator because that’s how they got him down. He was in a stretcher with blood soaked jeans. He didn’t look like he was breathing,” the victim’s sister-in-law said.

Family members said the victim is a father of two and holds a full-time job at an nursing home.

“Why would he have a gun?” Crystal Wilson, the victim’s mother-in-law, said.

Jones was arrested in April 2008 for robbing a Chinese restaurant around the corner from his apartment in the Beach Channel Houses, again in June of the same year for criminal possession of a weapon, allegedly punching and kicking officers during the arrest.

The man is in critical condition at Jamaica Hospital. Two officers were treated for minor injuries.
