Person struck and killed by J train

A person was struck and killed by a train on the Lower East Side on Monday, authorities said.

The straphanger was hit shortly after 5:45 p.m. by a Brooklyn-bound J train at the Essex Street station, near Delancey Street, according to an FDNY spokesman and an MTA spokesman.

There is no J train service between Broad Street in Manhattan and Marcy Avenue in Brooklyn in both directions,
affecting rush-hour commuters.

The M train is also not running between Broadway-Lafayette in Manhattan, and Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn.
