‘Pot Roast’ Knighton jokes a win could seal soup deal

Terrance Knighton is hoping for more than a Super Bowl victory to come out of this week.

The personable and playful Broncos defensive tackle, of course, wants the Lombardi Trophy more than anything, but a by-product of that could be an endorsement deal associated with his nickname, “Pot Roast.’’

“If we go out and win the Super Bowl I’m pretty sure there’ll be something — maybe a Chunky Soup commercial,’’ Knighton said jokingly on Monday.

Knighton called the nickname “fun to play with,’’ adding, “hopefully, I’ll go out in the Super Bowl and make some plays and more people recognize me for it.’’

Knighton ironically got his nickname while he was a member of the Jaguars on a team flight back to Florida from Seattle.

“It was dark on the plane and everyone was sleeping and the stewardess was walking down the aisle saying, ‘Pot roast, pot roast,’ and I raised my hand as if that was my name. The guy sitting behind me — [former teammate] Clint Ingram, probably the biggest comedian I ever played with — said, ‘I’m going to start calling you, ‘Pot Roast.’

“I was like, ‘Yeah, whatever.’ But it stuck with me. I’m just glad I ordered that instead of shrimp Alfredo. I just thought it was going to be something to laugh about for the week, but five years later we’re still talking about ‘Pot Roast.’ ’’
