The National Labor Relations Board said it may sue Walmart over charges that it illegally threatened workers ahead of protests last fall about the retailer’s labor practices.
The case could result in workers being awarded back pay or being reinstated — with disciplinary actions being reversed, the NLRB said.
Walmart managers “unlawfully threatened workers with reprisal” ahead of planned protests and strikes on Black Friday, the NLRB found.
Walmart, which reportedly fired 117 workers in the incident, said the board ruling was “just a procedural step.”
“We will pursue our options to defend the company because we believe our actions were legal and justified,” a spokeswoman said.
