US Sen. Al Franken, who wrote and performed for “Saturday Night Live” back in the day, is still raking in the bucks from the show.
Franken, now a Democratic senator from Minnesota, was an original writer and performer for “SNL” from 1975 through to the mid-’90s.
Best known for his “SNL” self-help character Stuart Smalley, Franken earned up to $50,000 in interest last year from Broadway Video Inc., the company owned by “SNL” creator/executive producer Lorne Michaels, according to Senate disclosure forms.
He also earned royalties from songwriting, performing, writing/producing and from “SNL” merchandising, according to the forms.
Franken, who’s held his Senate seat since 2009, earns $174,000 per year as a US senator.
