A veteran Rikers Island warden resigned yesterday as the Department of Investigations probes allegations of brutality against guards at the prison, Department of Corrections sources told the Post.
Supervising warden Eliseo Perez oversaw security for the 15,000-inmate facility, which has been the target of numerous claims of brutality, the sources said.
The DOI probe is focusing on at least several Rikers correction officers – including at least one supervisor – for a beating an inmate suffered at the hands of guards last summer, law-enforcement sources confirmed.
The sources couldn’t confirm whether Perez was the supervisor under investigation.
