Devils, Islanders vet Pandolfo announces retirement

Jay Pandolfo announced his retirement from the NHL on Thursday after 15 seasons and two Stanley Cups with the Devils.

The 39-year-old forward was born in Burlington, Mass., and spent the first 13 seasons of his NHL career with the Devils after being chosen with the 32nd overall pick (second round) of the 1993 NHL Draft. He also played for the Islanders in the 2011-12 season and finished his career with 18 games in Boston last season.

“I was very fortunate to live my dream of playing in the NHL,” Pandolfo announced in a statement released through the NHL Players’ Association. “I was lucky to be part of three great organizations and would like to thank the [Devils, Islanders and Bruins]. I would like to thank all my teammates, coaches and staff for all the memorable experiences together. I’d especially like to thank my family for all the support they have given me throughout my career.”

Pandolfo, who played four seasons at Boston University before starting his NHL career, won Stanley Cups with the Devils in 2000 and 2003. In the run to the 2003 Cup, he had six goals and 12 points in 24 games for New Jersey.

Pandolfo had 100 goals and 126 assists in 899 games. He had 11 goals and 22 assists in 131 career playoff games.
