BARRY GOOD, FEDS

* Kudos to the federal prosecutors for continuing to pursue the Barry Bonds case until they obtained the evidence needed to get an indictment. Now it looks like those prosecutors will accomplish what National League pitchers failed to do since the mid 1990s: cool off Bonds’ hot, steroid-loaded bat with some time in a federal prison and put an end to any talk of him going to the Hall of Fame.

* Barry Bonds says that he didn’t knowingly take steroids. His casaba-sized noggin says otherwise.

Welcome back?

* So Alex Rodriguez has decided he wants to remain a Yankee after all. This is one sick and conflicted, though extraordinarily talented, individual. Bottom line, the Yankees are a better team with A-Rod than without him, so if both sides can come to an agreement, great. Rodriguez has capitulated. He is now the prodigal son. It would serve the team’s interest not to risk the appearance of humiliating him.

JOHN NARDELLA

* Alex Rodriguez had this city on his side with a monster season that seemed to even overshadow his postseason shortcomings. He was being embraced by the fans of the Yankees, the greatest sports franchise in the greatest city in the world. Then he acted like a child being led by the hand of agent Scott Boras and it all seemed to come crashing down. He owes a lot to the Steinbrenners, who probably saw little good in leaving their star player broken and humiliated.

Mann or mouse?

* I want to thank Paul Schwartz for being one of the few voices of reason with regards to Giants quarterback Eli Manning [“Mann enough,” The Post and nypost.com, Nov. 14]. Probably 20 NFL teams would rather have Manning than their current quarterback. My favorite Giant of all time, Phil Simms, was booed and hated by many Giants fans for the first part of his career. I’m not saying Manning will ever be as good as Simms, but I am confident, given the right support, he can take us to a championship.

KEVIN DOLAN

* As a lifelong Giants fan, I am extremely disappointed in Eli Manning, especially after the loss to Dallas. After four years, he still looks lost. Top quarterbacks have a presence and strike fear into opposing defenses, especially with the game on the line. Eli Manning doesn’t scare anybody – except his fans and coaching staff.

No Prophet

* The Knicks need to fire Isiah Thomas now. Not tomorrow, not next week, but now. The people responsible for hiring him also need to be fired, otherwise the Knicks will flounder for another season. Thomas stinks as a coach, stinks as a general manager and, most of all, stinks as a handler of personnel. He has created disharmony wherever he has been, be it as a player, a coach or in the front office. The players don’t like him and the fans don’t like him.

A Torr-ible idea

* I’m scratching my head trying to understand what made catcher Yorvit Torrealba worth more than $14 million for three years to the Mets? He’ll be 30 years old next season and is a career .250 hitter with at best a marginal throwing arm. We already have Ramon Castro, and he has done a wonderful job as backup the past few years. This guy Torrealba couldn’t carry Paul Lo Duca’s shin guards.
