FELINE MISFIRE

“Project Runway” hellion Kenley Collins admitted today that she threw a cat but not at her ex.

The catty, batty fashion designer said that while she and former fiance Zak Penley were having an argument in their Williamsburg apartment, she tossed one of their two pet cats on their bed.

“The story portrayed in the papers is false,” the 26-year-old fashion designer said after a Brooklyn Criminal Court hearing at which she was promised that an assault charge will be dropped from a felony to a misdemeanor.

“The only reason why a cat was involved in this story because when I first approached Zak, I was holding my cat and it was gently tossed onto my bed,” she said.

“There was no cat hurt or thrown. The cat was not thrown at Zak. It was tossed onto the bed. There was an argument. No violence was used. Nothing was thrown.”

Collins was arrested on March 17 and charged with second-degree assault, a felony, for allegedly tossing the feline at Penley as he slept in their bed.

Cops said she then threw her laptop at him, slammed a door on his head, tossed three apples at him and doused him with water.

Collins’ lawyer, Peter Tilem, said Penley made up the charges to get revenge because the crazy cat lady had broken off their engagement.

Tilem said prosecutors told his the assault charge would be reduced to a misdemeanor on April 14.

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s office would not confirm that the charges will be reduced. However, prosecutors asked that the case be transferred to a court section that only handles misdemeanors.

Penley did not reply to a request for comment.

But in an earlier email to The Post, he said, “The situation did not need to go that far. You simply can’t do what she did. She needs to be held accountable for her actions. I feel really bad for her and care deeply for her. It was a relationship gone sour, yes, but it could’ve ended in a smooth amicable way.”

On “Project Runway,” Collins had talked back to the always cordial host, Tim Gunn, and sparred with hostess Heidi Klum. Fans reviled her, 88 percent saying in a poll that she was rude to Gunn.
