WASHINGTON — The White House announced yesterday that President Obama will travel to China and Russia later this year after meeting this week with the leaders of those nations in London.
Obama will visit Moscow in July and Beijing later in the year, according to administration officials, who described yesterday’s meetings as highly productive.

In their session, Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao agreed to “intensify coordination and cooperation on global economic and financial issues,” White House officials said.
Top on the agenda with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was reopening talks on reducing the two country’s nuclear arsenals.

Marking the first such talks since 1997, Obama and Medvedev jointly announced their intention to “move beyond Cold War mentalities” and said “the era when our countries viewed each other as enemies is long over.”
