OPRAH CHANNEL DELAYED

OPRAH Winfrey’s 2006 cross-country road trip with best pal Gayle King is the basis of a new series on Oprah’s new cable network.

The Oprah Winfrey Network — OWN — gave advertisers the first peek yesterday at some of the shows that will be on the new network.

Buried in the announcement was news that the launch of the channel, originally promised for sometime this year, has been pushed back to 2010.

One of the new series, “Excellent Adventure,” is built around “a celebrity [as yet unnamed] and their best friend as they embark on the adventure they have always dreamed of taking together,” according to press materials.

It will be produced by Ashton Kutcher’s company, the one that made MTV’s “Punk’d.”

The premise sounds a lot like the week-long car trip Oprah and Gayle undertook in the summer of ’06 — which they taped and featured prominently on “Oprah.”

Other proposed shows will be built around “Oprah” regulars clutter-expert Peter Walsh, adventurer Lisa Ling and sex-expert Dr. Laura Berman. OWN is also in talks with “Oprah” regulars Suze Orman and King to host their own shows, insiders say

OWN will replace Discovery Health Channel.
