S.I. WOMAN FOUND STRANGLED BY HAIR DRYER CORD

An aspiring Staten Island teacher was found lying dead in her apartment today, strangled by a cord from a hair dryer, police sources said.

Caroline Wimmer, 26, was discovered on the floor of her bathroom by her parents shortly before noon.

They’d gone over there because they hadn’t heard from her for a while.

“I called her Friday, Saturday and Sunday and there was no answer,” Wimmer’s anguished father Ronald, told The Post earlier this evening.

“My gut something was wrong because she would always call you back.”

When the parents went to their daughter’s Greenleaf Avenue apartment, they made the horrifying discovery.

“They choked her with a cord they beat her for what?” the tearful father asked.

The cord went around Wimmer’s neck and the hair dryer was left laying on her face, police sources said.

There was no sign of forced entry in the apartment, the sources said.

“She wanted to go back to school to be a teacher,” Wimmer’s distraught mother, Martha said, adding that she wants to see those responsible for the killing hanged.

Wimmer’s MySpace account — which was logged into sometime on Saturday — includes a quote that reads, “I will survive whatever life has to throw at me. Nothing or nobody will hold me back.”

One neighbor said they heard Wimmer’s parents make the grisly discovery.

“The father was trying to wake her up. He was screaming her name,” according to a neighbor who asked not to be identified.

The neighbor said she heard Wimmer with several friends early Friday morning.

“I heard her laughing outside. She was with a bunch of guys it was around 2:30 a.m.,” she said, adding that Wimmer then drove away in a jeep.

Police now want to talk to the woman’s boyfriend, sources said.

Neighbors said she had problems with an ex-boyfriend, who they said broke into her house about six months ago.

It wasn’t immediately known if this is the man authorities want to speak with.

When asked if she had any enemies, the father said, “Evidently,” adding, “That’s what’s under investigation.”

The father described Wimmer as “a great kid,” who “was always there for you, no matter what.”

Until recently, the victim worked at a hot dog stand, the father operated under the Goethals Bridge.
