The Slammin’ Salmon

The restaurant comedy “The Slammin’ Salmon” offers a menu stocked mainly with crudities.

In the titular restaurant, a high-end Miami place owned by an ex-champion boxer (Michael Clarke Duncan), waiters compete to trick each other out of the best customers and ring up the highest checks to win a prize offered by the owner, who needs a quick $20K to pay off a debt.

A costly engagement ring gets ingested, a waitress nearly suffers death by soup, and a timid obsessive-compulsive waiter (Jay Chandrasekhar) goes flamboyantly bonkers.

Somewhere in the chaos are a pop singer named Nutella and, as herself, Morgan Fairchild, who still looks better than women half her age (but, then again, Angela Lansbury is half her age).

Though uneven (the owner’s dumb-guy malapropisms can be cringe-inducing), this fratty National Lampoon-style comedy (written by and starring the Broken Lizard troupe of comics who made “Beerfest” and “Super Troopers”) is funny more often than not. Worth checking out on video.
