Ironmen invade Flatiron District

Don’t be alarmed if, walking through the Flatiron District, you get the creeping feeling that you’re being watched.

It’s just an art installation by British sculptor Antony Gormley, consisting of 31 life-size cast-iron figures of the artist set up around and overlooking Madison Square Park.

Called “Event Horizon,” the project debuts March 26 with 27 of the statues perched on buildings and four at ground level.

“The installation connects the palpable, the perceivable and the imaginable, creating a relational field in which the passer-by as well as the aware viewer is implied in a matrix of looking and being looked at,” Gormley said.
