Nick Lachey speaks out on ex-wife Jessica Simpson’s surprise engagement: report

Nick Lachey sent his best wishes to ex-wife Jessica Simpson after she announced her engagement to former NFL player Eric Johnson — just days after Lachey’s own engagement was made public, Us Magazine reported Monday.

“I will say the same thing I always say: I wish her the very best,” the former 98 Degrees singer told the celebrity magazine — adding that he and fiancee Vanessa Minnillo are “still basking in the glow” of their engagement, announced November 4.

Simpson, 30, flashed a ruby, diamond and gold engagement ring from jeweler Neil Lane over the weekend and her rep confirmed the former NFL player — who she has dated for seven months — proposed November 11.

“So very happy for Jess and Eric. May they have a lifetime of joy and happiness,” Simpson’s dad Joe tweeted Sunday regarding the couple’s news.

Simpson went through a public divorce from her first husband — who is now host of the NBC reality show “The Sing-Off.”

At the age of 22, the Texas native married Lachey in October 2002 and their relationship was profiled on the MTV reality show “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica,” which ran for three seasons.

The pair filed for divorce in December 2005.

Johnson, 31, is recently divorced having officially ended his first marriage to his wife of five years in October — six months after he began dating Simpson.

In five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints, Johnson, a tight end out of Yale, had 240 receptions for 2,178 yards and nine touchdowns.
