Big stall in bldg. jobs

Signs of an economic recovery may be showing up in department-store aisles, but they’ve yet to be seen on construction projects around the city, where the number of stalled building sites increased by 52 percent this year, a newly released report found.

As of October, there were 692 stalled construction sites across the five boroughs, with Brooklyn accounting for 46 percent of the total, according to an analysis released yesterday by the New York Building Congress.

“It’s not getting better out there,” said Richard Anderson, president of the organization.

Work virtually came to a halt during the economic crisis, he said.
