Amtrak service halted at Penn Station

Holiday commuters are stranded because no Amtrak or NJ Transit trains are entering or leaving Penn Station today, mostly because of complications from the weather.

Amtrak service is suspended because of overhead wire problems in Newark and on the Hellgate Line in the Bronx, officials said.

“Nothing is arriving or leaving Penn Station at this point,” an Amtrak spokesman said, adding that there’s no estimate on when service when restart.

There are also no trains from Penn Station to Newark for NJT.

“Overhead wires have come down across both tracks near Portal Bridge. The cause is under investigation. It is not known if this incident was weather related. Repairs are expected to last through the afternoon,” officials said.

The LIRR is not affected.
