Kids all smiles for Santa Claus in Queens

Dozens of happy children went all the way to the North Pole and met Santa Claus today — and never had to leave Queens.

About 100 kids and many parents boarded a Delta 767 at JFK Airport where flight attendants and ticket agents dressed as elves handed out gift bags as the plane taxied down the runway to a hangar magically changed into the North Pole.

The Garden of Dreams foundation and the airline hosted the party for the kids, aged 5 to 12, who were from Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New Hyde Park, and from the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation in The Bronx.

The children took turns sitting on Santa’s lap. They also played games, chowed down on hot dogs and pizza, got more presents including board games andy also got to meet Knicks point guard Raymond Felton and Rangers alum Adam Graves.

Billy Fischer, 10, a cancer survivor, said “I’m most excited to talk to Santa and ask him for an iPod because I like to rock to Michael Jackson and Def Leppard.”

Billy’s mom, Dana Fischer, said the hospital “saved his life. This is a unique party for Billy, to be able to be here and be in the cockpit. I’m grateful for the fact that my kid is alive and happy and able to enjoy this. He’s on his way to a cure, but I’m sure we’ll be coming back here for a long time.”

Felton, who played basketball with the kids and signed autographs, said “I came here just to see the smiles on these kids’ faces,’’ adding, “I’m just going to ask Dancer for a win on Christmas Day.’’

Graves, who played some street hockey with the kids in a little rink, said “I have three kids myself and kids are the most important thing in the world. This is what it’s all about, to be able to celebrate together with these families.’’
