AJ worried over Katherine Webb’s safety at Iron Bowl

An Auburn alum should feel right at home at Jordan Hare Stadium during the Tigers’ Iron Bowl showdown with Alabama. Unless she’s dating Alabama’s starting quarterback, that is.

“Honestly, I don’t know what to expect,” Katherine Webb, the longtime gal pal of the Crimson Tide star AJ McCarron, told USA Today.

“AJ just in his protective nature, we talked about it [last week]. And he was like, ‘I’m concerned. I don’t know what the fans are going to do.’ And I’m like, ‘It’s OK. I’ll be sweet, genuine and nice like I always am if anything were to happen.’ Even in my experience at Auburn, it’s been very, very rare to see fans that have been rude or anything like that.”

Webb gained instant popularity during last season’s national title game, when ABC play-by-play man Brent Musburger commented on her looks when the TV cameras found her in the stands during Alabama’s romp over Notre Dame. Webb graduated from Auburn in 2011, but her loyalty may be questioned by some fans given her relationship status.

The classic college football rivalry has extraordinary hype this year with undefeated No. 1 Alabama facing a resurgent Auburn team, which has risen to No. 4 in the BCS standings after a couple of down seasons. The winner advances to the SEC Championship game.

“I’m not nervous about the fans,” said Webb, who said she sold her student tickets to the Iron Bowl when she was attending Auburn because she didn’t have a lot of money.

“Of course I want to see AJ have that … championship ring, so I really want them to do well. That’s what I’m nervous about. I’m not nervous about his talent or abilities as a player. Of course, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about the outcome.”
