Killer’s dad feared son was spiraling ‘out of control’

Jared Lee Loughner’s father had told a neighbor he feared his son was “out of control,” it was reported last night.

The comment by Randy Loughner, who had a confrontation with his son hours before the young man’s murderous rampage, flies in the face of the family’s statement this week that “we don’t understand why this happened.”

The fight began Saturday morning after Loughner’s dad spotted the suspect grabbing a black bag from the trunk of the family car and asked what he was doing, CNN said.

Loughner ran off, later killing six people and wounding 14, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, police said.

Yesterday, a man walking near the Loughner home in Tucson, Ariz., found a backpack-like diaper bag stuffed with ammunition that matched the type discovered at the scene of the massacre.

The bag also contained receipts and papers, although their contents was unclear, according to The Washington Post.

Meanwhile, Jared Loughner’s first cousin told The Washington Post that his extended family has a history of “bipolar disorder.”

The paper also revealed that Loughner’s paternal grandfather, A.M. Loughner Jr., was arrested in 1952 for a series of grocery store robberies in 1950.

Also, the suspect’s former high-school girlfriend, Ashley Figueroa, told news outlets she dumped him after becoming worried about his abuse of hallucinogenic mushrooms and his “temper problem.”
