On Sept. 1, German Sent thumbed through his collection of jeans, deciding which to wear for a night out on the town with a friend.
Would he wear the skintight Kenneth Coles? Or the slim pair from H&M? The 27-year-old never could have imagined how important his wardrobe choice would be that night.
As was first reported in The Post, the architect was thrown to the ground by a trio of would-be thieves while walking home from the Bushwick, Brooklyn, Halsey Street subway station at about 5 a.m.
“I was really concerned with the possibility they’d hurt me with a weapon,” says Siberian-born Sent.
But his painted-on pair of black, 30-by-32 Kenneth Cole skinnies saved the day.
The attackers each tried to slide a hand into his back pocket to slip out Sent’s iPhone 6.
“They couldn’t get a finger in the pocket — the jeans helped a lot,” he says. “It sounds funny, but when you think about it, this is the best possible thing that could have happened to me.”
Since the story broke, people have been asking, “Just how tight were they?”
“They’re not pop-singer tight, but they hug,” he admits.
When it comes to style, Sent sticks with what works.
“I’m a [skinny jeans] guy,” he says. “I go by what looks right on me … It’s been the same brands since I’ve found my look.”
Besides Kenneth Cole, Sent, who stands 6-foot-2, favors classics from Calvin Klein and more cutting-edge looks from H&M.
And now, he has a brand-new safety strategy.
He says: “I would definitely wear jeans to feel safe in the subway.”
Here, Sent reveals tried-and-true favorites sure to keep you safe and chic.
