Magician fails to do magic, ends up with nail through his hand

This magician really nailed his trick — and was left with a hole in his hand to prove it.

Kyle Wallace was attempting a Russian roulette-style trick in which three bags were lined up in front of him. One contained a nail sticking through a block of wood, while the rest contained less dangerous items of similar shape.

The audience in West Ham, UK, told him which bag to slam his hand on, but something went awry and he struck the wrong one — leaving his palm impaled on the 6-inch nail, the London Evening Standard reported.

“There was no drop of blood at all because the nail had sealed the wound,” he said. “As I raised my hand, I brought the bag up with it. It was a nightmare. I wanted to take away as much of the negative experience for the audience that I could, so I told them it had gone wrong.”

The audience was horrified.

“One guy at the front even burst into tears,” he said. “I told everyone to get their phones out so they could take a picture.”

Wallace, 55, took it all in stride and even shot selfies before surgeons removed the nail.

“I’m already recovering very quickly. I can move my hand and make a fist but a fraction either side and it could have been very different. If my tendons had ripped it could have been a much longer recovery,” he said. “I’ve done the trick hundreds of times before, it was just this new method I was using to up the comedy value.”
