One-legged cockatoo gets 3D-printed prosthetic foot

This cockatoo is as proud as a peacock after being fitted with a 3D-printed leg.

Mr. Ben, whose right foot was removed because of a birth defect, at first got a plastic prosthetic – but he found it too yummy and kept chewing it.

His owners in Abingdon in England turned to Charlie’s Angels Parrot Rescue, whose founder described his new, more durable prototype.

“He’s finally able to get a good night’s sleep and is a lot less cranky. He’s even stopped biting me,” Lorraine Hollingworth, 43, told mirror.co.uk. “But we know he will eventually chew that one too so we are working on another to see if we can make it harder to get off.”

The new claw was made with help from the Wendover Heights Veterinary Centre and South London firm 3D Print UK.

Engineer Fred Standeven and co-designer Jason Pereira are working on an even more robust limb for the plucky parrot.
