Trial date set for rookie cop who shot unarmed man in stairwell

A trial date has been set for the NYPD officer charged with accidentally killing an unarmed man last year while on patrol.

Peter Liang, 27, briefly appeared in Brooklyn Supreme Court Tuesday to learn he’ll stand trial Jan. 7.

His lawyer, Stephen Worth, has yet to decide whether he will seek a jury trial or have the case decided by a judge.

Liang was on a vertical patrol with his partner in the Pink Houses in East New York last November when he entered a dark stairwell with his gun drawn.

The weapon discharged, sending a bullet ricocheting off a wall and striking Akai Gurley, 28, in the chest.
