Hillary Clinton’s lead over rival Bernie Sanders in California has shrunk to two points, bringing to a screeching halt any momentum she hoped to gain from her 16-point win in New York.
The Fox poll out Friday night showed Sanders surging in the Golden State, where two earlier April polls had him 6 and 12 points behind.
Clinton has the support of 48 percent of those likely to vote in the state’s Democratic primary on June 7, the survey found, while 46 percent favor the Vermont senator.
Donald Trump leads California’s Republican race handily, with 49 percent of likely voters — topping the combined support for Ted Cruz, with 22 percent, and John Kasich, with 20 percent.
The California primaries, which will award 475 Democratic delegates proportionally and 172 Republicans by congressional district, will close out the primary season.
Sanders’ strong poll showing, along with a campaign fund-raising effort that has kept pace with Clinton’s, will likely keep him in the race till the end of the line — despite the fact that the former secretary of state now has more than 80 percent of the delegates she needs to secure the nomination.
“It’s going to be hard,” he admitted to supporters at a Saturday campaign stop in Baltimore.
