Al Sharpton won’t endorse Hillary Clinton just yet

The Rev. Al Sharpton declined to endorse Hillary Clinton Tuesday after she spent a full day in the Big Apple trying to persuade black voters that she’d be their best hope in the White House.

Clinton spoke to a gathering of black leaders, including Sharpton, sponsored by the National Urban League at its Wall Street offices.

But Sharpton — who last week met with Clinton’s Democratic rival, Bernie Sanders, in Harlem — later described himself as still undecided.

“I have not decided who I will support for president,” he said, adding, “ I think we are in the midst of a process, and that process has to be detailed policy and that process has to include collective gathering.”

Meanwhile, a later Hillary event in Harlem was marred when an event-hall staffer called black activist Bertha Lewis a “savage” after Lewis was initially denied access to the Schomburg Center.

The Secret Service and the NYPD quelled the situation, and Hillary was “gracious” and apologized, Lewis said.

A Clinton campaign official said, “Our campaign is tremendously proud to have Bertha Lewis’s support and that more supporters turned out than the venue could hold. We were pleased that arrangements were made for her and her group to see Hillary Clinton and we’re confident that no one on our staff would have interacted with guests in that kind of disrespectful manner.”
