Here’s a turkey of a deal — an apartment at 15 Central Park West has just sold at a $3 million loss for $45 million, according to city property records.
The seller, a Chicago based LLC, bought the 18th floor duplex for $48 million last year. At the time, it was the second highest sale price in the building, following a Russian oligarch’s $88 million purchase of Sandy Weill’s penthouse triplex.
The Chicago based LLC was signed by Phengphian Laogumnerd, who is the manager of Thailand-based information technology contractor Songkhla Finishing Co.
The seller was originally asking $65 million for the four bedroom, six and a half bathroom residence, but sold for $20 million less than his asking price, and $3 million less than he paid for the unit just a year ago.
The new owner has put the apartment back on the market as a $125,000 rental, which is one of the highest asking prices in the city. Robert De Niro and Grace Hightower currently live in another $125,000 a month rental in the building.
The 18th and 19th floor unit is a sprawling 5,610 square feet. It comes with its own internal elevator along with a curved staircase.
The living room includes a wood burning fireplace and a double set of French doors that open to a 392 square foot terrace that overlooks Central Park. The library also comes with French doors that open to the terrace.
For folks who want to entertain, there’s also a large chef’s kitchen, a breakfast room/den and a formal dining room with a separate wet bar
area and pantry.
The second level includes a master suite with windows overlooking Central Park, his and her marble baths with park views, lots of walk in closet space and a study/exercise room, according to the listing.
Building amenities feature a 14,000 square foot gym with a skylit pool, a library, and a private restaurant. There’s also a screening room, a billiards room and a children’s playroom.
The listing broker is Janice Chang of Douglas Elliman.
