Two basketball players from Stony Brook University were busted for smashing into a fellow student’s car on the Long Island campus and grabbing the kid’s $5,000 tax refund, officials told The Post.
RayShaun McGrew and DeShaun Thrower — who were on the school’s first-ever NCAA Tournament team last month — allegedly threw a stone through the car window before running off with the cash, officials confirmed.
Victim Jevreel Miller, 23, said he was walking toward his car on campus on April 6 and witnessed the NCAA ballers rummaging through it it.
He said the two men took off as he approached and he pursued them on foot while calling campus cops.
When police arrived, Miller rode around with them in their patrol car until he was able to identify McGrew.
The starting forward — who told The Post in January he left Chicago to get away from “nonsense” — then fingered his teammate to cops while being questioned, police said.
The victim said he had just cashed his refund check before class and had the money in the rented Toyota he was driving.
Miller said that nobody has been able to tell him how to get his cash back and that he has been unable to get a copy of a police report.
“I’m the victim here and no one’s defending me,” Miller said. “They’re making it like I brought this on myself.”
McGrew and Thrower were charged with grand larceny and criminal mischief, according to the Stony Brook University Police Department.
McGrew, who averaged more than 10 points a game this season, said before the March Madness tournament that he was encouraged to leave his crime-ridden home for the safety of Long Island.
“My family wanted me to get away so I wouldn’t have a lot of distractions,” he said. “Because if I was home, I could easily get involved with some nonsense and blow everything up.”
