This woman’s Twitter handle just became very valuable

Think carefully when you choose your Twitter handle. It could end up making you a lot of money.

Unfortunately for most of us, irrespective of the amount of thought we put into our social media moniker, we will never have the good fortune of landing a handle that becomes the target of a multimillion-dollar organization.

Lara Sasken did have such luck.

After it was announced on Wednesday that the St. Louis Rams would be relocating to become Los Angeles’ only NFL team, which would see the franchise renamed the LA Rams, heads quickly turned to the organization’s presence on social media.

Currently operating under the handle @STLouisRams, the side would likely look to change to @LARams once the move was in full swing.

Unfortunately, GoPro director of communications Lara M. Sasken has been operating under the handle @LaraMS since 2008. Given that Twitter handles are not case-sensitive, Sasken effectively owns the rights to the would-be LA Rams presence on the social platform.

The NFL side has the option to purchase the handle from Sasken, which could see the GoPro employee attract a significant sum, given the essential marketing benefits of having simple access to social media accounts for fans.

Sasken quickly became an Internet sensation as fans began tagging her in posts discussing the team’s relocation, unaware that their comments were going directly to Sasken’s page. Others caught on, with the realization that the handle was about to become extremely valuable.
